XM Tangle Free Leash
There hasn’t been much innovation in the leash market in quite some time. In the nineties the XM power clip changed the game of survival when surfing big waves in desperate situations. Unhinging the leash to avoid being dragged into danger. A functional tool still relevant today.
Being the innovators that they are, XM decided to try and rid us of the age-old problem that is the leash tangle. Here’s the theory: “The patented XM Tangle Free Slider keeps the cord from entangling in your feet and toes. The key is the small slider that creates little or no drag but keeps the leash away from your feet. Never step on the cord or surf on a wave with the leash between your toes again.” (XM)
After testing the leash in both small beachbreak California surf and big powerful Cloudbreak surf, it was apparent it performed best in waves with power. The slider sinks beneath the surface and out of the way of the attached leg. By the time you stand up it comes out of the depths with no noticeable drag. On the other hand in small beachbreak it can be a bit of a mind trip of “is it causing drag or is this wave just that shitty?” In the end the main objective came through, the slider was functional and kept the leash away from the front foot. We would recommend the 6-foot Regular (.270 inch diameter) leash for medium to large surf. The black one with the yellow slider.
