needessentials Short Arm Steamer
The Short Arm suit is our favorite in the rotating wardrobe of suits throughout the year, probably because it's summer and it's so thin. Truly though, wearing a light second skin layer keeps “the package” high and tight which can be more dynamic than my 25” long MCD below the knee boardies.
This thing has simple construction GBS seam with dot taping over critical intersecting seams. That's all you need for this suit and its 90+ days of use a year. Naked edge hem with flexible coverstitch keeps this suits sleeves flexible and non flushing for everyone’s guns. The minimal touch of silicone transfers at the ankle help with flushing and roll.
The neoprene on this suit is efficient. needessentials finds the right blend of stretch and price to giving you a performance suit. For the first couple sessions the suit had some sort of factory slime finish to it that made getting in and out nice. Could be a symptom of the limestone based neoprene.
We all know how the need business model has changed surfing and cut out the middle men and frivolous trims but there’s no key pocket? Minimlism gone too far. Less is more but now you're walking home. *Author Update: Need has since added a key pocket to current production models.
For $135 bucks this suit is worth it for summer. You might even have it two summer seasons if you rinse it... but you won't.
