Astrodeck Traction
In a market as flooded as surf traction, Astrodeck stands out as the best. Herbie Fletcher created traction pads in the late seventies and for that reason we thank him. The best surfers in the world, guys like Julian Wilson and John John Florence, were buying Astrodeck for years because they knew it was the best. They wanted peak performance out of their surfboard and that came from sliding their feet into the 45-degree-to-vert-kick tail pad Astro is famous for. Since then John has signed a huge deal with Dakine and Julian with FCS, money don’t lie. But the Astrodeck team is still strong with the Gudauskas brothers (who just released a new pad), Archy, Danny Fuller, Gavin Beschen, Christian and Nathan Fletcher who will probably never use another brand in their lives. The grid-lock squares that are used on each pad give the ultimate traction to the board, and the softness of the foam is perfect in preventing knee rash in the tropics. The three-piece design and built in arch allows your foot to lock in for big hacks. Dibi Fletcher runs the operation out of the factory in San Clemente, handling all orders while Christian and Greyson ship from the warehouse, making Astrodeck a true family operation that is easy to get behind and support. And the fact that Dibi told Jordy Smith to “Go fuck himself” when he offered to purchase the company only makes us love Astrodeck that much more.
